Racial Feats

Listen to Episode 28: Racial Feats Now!

Crit Academy covers the playtest material Unearthed Arcana: Racial Feats. These feats all have prerequisites of a specific race. Since this episodes recording, the Xanathar's Guide to Everything has been released, and includes the finalized feats, though some weren't changed much, while others were changed drastically. You can still use these concepts in your home game, or use them to inspire your own Dungeons and Dragons creations.

Unearthed Tips and Tricks: New and reusable D&D content for you to bring with you on your next adventure.

Character Concept: The Intimidating Rogue

Strength based – Uses 2 short swords

Charisma- Focused on Intimidation

When failing stealth rolls and someone spots him he just says in a deep and powerful voice “You do not see me!” and carries on about his business.

When someone spots him stealing something, he just always claims "finders, keepers!".

Instead of picking locks…he just breaks them.

Monster Variant: Vicejaw Crocodile

Origin: Crocodile

Features:

Vicegrip Jaws – If this creature begins its turn grappled with a creature in its jaws, it makes the attack with advantage against the grappled creature. If the attack misses the target takes half damage.

Death roll – If this creature has a creature grappled for at least 2 turns, it can use its bonus action to enter a death roll. Both creatures are restrained and make a DC 13 Strength saving throw taking 2d6+2 on a failed or half as much damage on a success.

Encounter: Kami’s Bathhouse

This rare and refreshing hot spring is said to be heated by the fire of a dragon’s breath and provide mystical healing properties. After relaxing for 1 hour a creature’s wounds begin to heal and they recover up to half their total HP, additionally they lose one level of exhaustion. A creature can only gain this effect once a day. If the creature is already fully rested and has no exhaustion. They gain temporary hit points equal to the maximum number of one Hit Die.

People who know of this area understand that there is an unspoken parley that always exists here.

This mysterious bath house can be a single place in the world or something found in many various locations, exotic or otherwise. A fantastic opportunity to create lore and history for those players who like it.

Magic Item: Reins of the Mount Master!

These superior-made gold and leather reins enchant any beast with the dominate beast spell to be a mount or companion for 1d12 hours.

Dungeon Master Tip: Listener Chad Christie: Remnant Roll!

If you live near a local newspaper you can stop by and get a Remnant roll. It’s a roll of newspaper that’s to small for the next run but usually about two and a half foot wide and….free.

He uses it to cover his gaming table. Has it on a spool. Anyone can right right on it. DM for maps, players for short notes, damage taken, player strategies, place to solve puzzles.

Player Tip: Don’t Be a Dick! You can avoid dickitude by...

Accept Limits

Many DM’s place restrictions on character options as part of their own unique campaign setting; Spells, races, feats, classes. Before you become committed to a character concept, be sure it doesn’t conflict with any limitations set in place.

Rather than bitch and complain, use it as an opportunity to challenge your preconceptions about various combinations. You might find it spurs your creativity. This also allows for players to explore elements they may not often experience.

If you don’t like the restrictions set, negotiate for the elements that matter most.
